Tasmania Escorted Motorhome Tour Highlights 2017

June 29, 2017

Our second escorted tour around Tasmania returned from their adventure earlier in 2017 and WOW! What a trip!

In a breathtaking journey which took them all the way around this enchanting island, our Gallivanters experienced the very best that Tassie has to offer – wild and pristine environments of windswept coastlines, dense ancient forests, crystal clear inland lakes and snow-capped mountains – all boasting an incredible diversity of landscapes, plants and wildlife…and lots of friendly locals too! There were visits to famous historical sites and little tucked away places, tastings of world-class produce, cruises and cable-car rides, sundowners sunk and friendships forged!  So many memories that will last a lifetime.

Here we have put together a video, detailing some of their amazing highlights, so kick back, make yourself comfortable and immerse yourself in their 21-day tour of this very special island!

  • Starting out in Hobart, our Gallivanters journeyed south to explore Bruny Island and its pristine beaches, remote coastline and tasted delicious local produce;
  • Travelling through the King River Gorge then deep into the rainforest on the West Coast Wilderness Railway, whilst enjoying a glass of sparkling wine and a light lunch, they sat back in comfort as the story unfolded of the railway and how the people of Tasmania helped shaped the wild West Coast
  • On the West Coast, the group boarded a luxury cruise ship to explore one of Tasmania’s natural wonders, the majestic Gordon River.  Prior to winding its way through the ancient rainforest and exploring convict island, Sarah Island, the cruise ventured out through the narrow entrance of Hells Gates and into the Southern Ocean
  • World heritage listed Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park is one of Tasmania’s premier wilderness regions and once again it did not disappoint.  Plenty of time to explore the region with a variety of shorter and longer walks – there was even the chance to make friends with a local wombat!
  • Driving north to Stanley, they then headed to the top of The Nut (the dramatic sheer sided bluff that remains from an ancient volcanic plug) and enjoyed the spectacular views from its peak across the Bass Straight, over surrounding beaches and the historic little town
  • The next stop was Launceston, famed for its Cataract Gorge; with its abundance of walking trails and panoramic views, and everyone immersed themselves in the fascinating Tasmanian history of this old riverside city
  • Reaching the east coast again, they continued south down the stunning coastline of the Tasman Sea via the Bay of Fires, where they were privy to some of the most picturesque scenery, we think, in the world.  Freycinet National Park and its famed Wineglass Bay is surpassed by no other!
  • Our Gallivanters learned all about Tasmanian convict history down at Port Arthur with a fascinating harbour cruise and exploration of the historic buildings and gardens
  • Finishing up the circuit of Tasmania back in Hobart, our Gallivanters ended their 21-day tour and made their way home armed with reels of pictures, new found friends and special memories to last them their lifetime
