Last week, on the 13th June 2018, our Gallivanters set off on the road with their tour leaders Dave and Jean, making their way from Adelaide to Darwin.
Maggie Beer Farm Shop
The group are now seven days into the Adelaide to Darwin Escorted motorhome tour and have already delighted in some of the best sights between Adelaide, SA and Uluru, just over the border in NT.
Having left the Maui depot in Adelaide, our Gallivanters enjoyed the first couple of days exploring the Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s most famous wine growing region. They enjoyed sampling some local wines and delicious local produce. A crowd favourite is the Maggie Beer Farm Shop with loads of delicious produce to taste and of course purchase, in this foodie paradise.
Meandering through this area, they enjoyed the breath-taking views from Menglers Hill, which is a popular lookout in the Barossa Range with stunning views of the Barossa – views that go on for miles! If you find yourself at Menglers Hill, be sure to check out the Sculpture Park which has easy access from the carpark. They also enjoyed learning about the fascinating history of the area and the Whispering Wall which is a popular detour.
Wine tasting at Clare Valley
In the Clare Valley, the group enjoyed wine tasting at Shut the Gate Winery, conveniently situated right next door to our camp for the night!
Heading further north, our Gallivanters noticed the changing scenery as they left the greener landscape imagery of SA and into the more renowned colours of the outback as they made their way up towards the NT border.
Before crossing the SA/NT border though, they got to explore the friendly town of Port Augusta and the weird and wonderful towns of Woomera and Coober Pedy – an outback and underground Opal capital of Australia! Much of Coober Pedy’s treasures can be found underground, which is a due to the intense daytime heat. The group had fun finding out how opals are mined and exploring underground houses and their time at the simply fabulous kangaroo orphanage and gallery run by Josephine and Terry.
Sunrise over Uluru
On their way out of town, there was a popular stop off at the picturesque Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park.
By day 7, the group have entered the magnificent Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, where they have experienced first-hand the majestic sunrise of Uluru this morning. Some of the group did a 30 minute sunrise helicopter ride around Uluru and Kata Tjuta which they raved about.
