April 24, 2020

As you may know, at Gallivanting Oz, we’re all about motor home hire…but we also know a thing or two about campsites too!

Whether you’ve gone for a luxury motorhome for a romantic getaway, or a big comfortable family motor  home hire and have a couple of ankle-biters in tow, there’s nothing finer than heading back to fabulous campsites after a long day of exploring and diving into a sparkling swimming pool!

So, join us for a little trip around Australia, as we show you some of our fav campsites with pools to suit every type of motor home hire holidaymaker! Dive right in, the water’s fine!

Best pool with a view

Lake Argyle Resort

Lake Argyle Resort and Caravan Park, Lake Argyle, WA

Isn’t there something utterly glorious about an infinitely pool? Perhaps it’s because you’re immersed in sparkling water and the surrounding scenery simultaneously! If floating blissfully, enjoying uninterrupted views across Lake Argyle and the red rugged East Kimberly landscape makes your inner-glamper do a little dance of joy, then put this one straight onto your post-COVID travel list! This is also, incidentally, a fav stop of ours on our popular Darwin to Perth escorted motorhome tour.

Best pool for kids

Coconut resort, Cairns

Coconut resort, Cairns

This tropical park set in 11 hectares of parkland is only 5 minutes away from Cairns, and with two enormous resort-style lagoon pools with waterslides, an incredible waterpark and bubbly spas to cool down in, this is kid heaven on steroids! PS: We probably should mention that it also has the biggest jumping pillow in the southern hemisphere! What a way to finish off your Far North Queensland motorhome hire road trip with campsites like this!

Best pool for socialising

Kakadu Lodge, Jabiru

Kakadu Lodge, Jabiru

After a magical day exploring the ancient Aboriginal rock art, waterfalls, and floodplains of Kakadu National Park, it’s pure joy returning to Kakadu Lodge and diving straight into the shady lagoon pool, surrounded by tropical gardens. Sip a cold drink from the adjoining poolside bar and bistro, where guests from all over the world gather every afternoon for happy hour to swap stories and have a laugh, before enjoying a free nature talk or an outdoor movie under the stars.

There is so much to see around the Kakadu National Park on a sealed road with  plenty of campsites available, which makes a 2WD motorhome hire perfect to explore this area.

Best pool in the middle of nowhere

Border Village Roadhouse, Nullarbor Plain SA

Border Village Roadhouse, Nullarbor Plain SA

It’s a long, long stretch of road and some would think it crosses a whole lot of nothing, but a Nullarbor Plain crossing is considered a rite of passage by many of our motor home hire customers including us! Think remote isolation, hidden underground caves, mallee scrub, searing heat… after a big day of driving, a restorative dip is just what the doctor ordered! Is this the swankiest pool you’re ever going to swim in? No. But is it the remotest pool you’re ever going to swim in? Odds are!

Best pool for glamping in the vines

Hunter Valley Resort

Hunter Valley Resort

Adore motorhoming and love a bit of luxury? This hidden gem is not actually a campground but offers four powered sites for motorhomes, giving you access to all their resort facilities such as their gourmet restaurant, day-spa, wine school, and a sparkling pool! Surrounded by the Hunter Valley’s world-class wineries, you couldn’t be in a better spot…and when you need a break from all the grapey decadence, wander back to camp for a decadent dip!

The Hunter Valley is a fabulous detour when road-tripping from Brisbane to Sydney in your motorhome hire.

Best pool for a winter getaway

Ballarat Windmill Holiday Park, Ballarat VIC

Ballarat Windmill Holiday Park, Ballarat VIC

Only 90 minutes’ drive in a motorhome from Melbourne, this charming old gold-mining town has become a bit of a foodie and cultural hub of late! Pan for gold, peruse some art, enjoy a long lazy lunch… and then back to camp to shed the winter woollies and dive into the warm indoor pool or soak in one of the two heated spas. With a toddler pool, kid’s splash pad, and a big screen for movies in the spa – everyone’s happy!

Best pool for relaxing in nature

Bitter Springs Mataranka

Bitter Springs, Mataranka, NT

Okay, so full disclosure to start with; this isn’t technically a swimming pool and also isn’t technically a campsite (there’s two within walking distance though), however, it’s just too darn amazing not to include on our list! The crystal-clear turquoise waters of Mataranka’s deep thermal pools are surrounded by lush greenery and kept at a constant 34°C by natural hot springs. This is paradise on earth, friends – emerge with your spirit revived and your vigor restored!

This is a very popular stopover for both our lovely motorhome hire clients and those joining us on an escorted motorhome tour that starts or finishes in Darwin.

Best pool for the whole family

Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort, Yamba NSW

Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort, Yamba NSW

Yamba is one of those friendly little coastal gems that all locals know and love, but visitors often don’t hear about it! This campsite comes up trumps in the pool stakes with four pools to choose from, plus waterslides, an awesome waterpark for the kids, and a swim-up bar right beside it for the parents! Like to know more about Yamba? One of our team members recently visited with her family and you can read about it here on our Facebook Page.
